2. Hammerpress

Hammerpress is a lovely stop when shopping for those who appreciate attention to detail. This ultra-cool letterpress print shop and design studio offers a whole slew of unique and beautiful cards, stationery, posters, art prints, and pretty much all things paper—plus some home goods, desk supplies, and personal accessories. While you’re there, you might just be able to peer into the print shop to see the press in action and catch a whiff of that nostalgic ink and paper smell. 


3. Westside Storey

1701 Summit Street, Kansas City MO 64108

Pick up the latest and greatest KC-themed apparel and accessories at this hip corner store. Westside Story sits at 17th and Summit in the historic Westside neighborhood; the shop is housed in an original 1920s building formerly home to Stern’s Dry Goods. Aside from enjoying the vintage vibe, you’ll also find a fun mix of sporty and eclectic gifts for your friends and family. 


4. Local Pig

Offering an assortment of locally-sourced, hormone-free, humanely-raised meats, this is the perfect spot to shop for your carnivorous friends and family members. On top of its selection of steaks, roasts, chops, sausages, and charcuterie, you can also find a variety of local cheeses, fermented foods, spreads, jams, and even t-shirts. We recommend sticking with cured meats, canned goods, and other items that have a more trustworthy shelf-life—especially if you’re traveling this season. If you’re dead set on an item from the butcher’s block, consider purchasing a gift card so your loved one can pick up the freshest possible meat. 


5. KC Urban Potters

Support local artists and give the truly unique gift of a handmade cup, bowl, or ornament. KC Urban Potters is a collective of full-time studio artists making functional clay pottery with a high standard of craftsmanship. Though this shop has limited business hours (Fridays 12-5 p.m. and Saturdays 10-3 p.m.), it’s well worth waiting for. Plus, if you purchase a cup, you can get a free coffee next door at Oddly Correct. Just be sure to get there before December 21, after which the storefront will remain closed through the holidays. 


6. Prospero’s Books

A 39th Street staple since 1997, Prospero’s is the perfect place to shop for the bookworm in your life. Inside, you’ll find three full floors with over 70 categories and 50,000 titles of books to choose from. On the third floor, you’ll also find a collection of records and CDs to peruse if you’re shopping for your local songbird, too. On top of its wide selection of books and media, Prospero’s is chock-full of quiet nooks to read in, so no need to rush the next time you pop in. Grab a spot and stay for a while. 


7. Dear Society

This bright and minimal shop offers an array of modern and vintage clothing in two locations (their flagship store in Midtown and a satellite spot in the Crossroads). In addition to unique and beautiful clothing, the store offers beauty products, a few home goods, accessories, and even sustainable gear like Thinx-brand reusable feminine hygiene products and Baggu reusable bags that are sure to make life easier the eco-conscious fashionistas in your life.
